Krypt III

Ravensburger | 736 pieces | 1997
A phrenology head illustration overlaying a scene featuring a pink jigsaw puzzle, an Egyptian statue, and a small rabbit.

The background of the image features a large, light blue line-art illustration of a phrenology head in profile, segmented with labels describing mental faculties like 'Veneration' and 'Reflectiveness.' The large, dark blue text 'THINK.' is centered prominently over the forehead area of the head. Behind the blue line-art is a pattern of fine, concentric wavy lines that ripple across the entire frame.

In the center, a rectangular inset displays a complex scene that contrasts with the minimalist background. A solid pink, monochrome jigsaw puzzle with uniform pieces is framed within a dark border. Surrounding this puzzle are several disparate elements, including a golden-hued sunset landscape featuring an ancient Egyptian statue in silhouette, a small white rabbit resting on a ledge, a spiral seashell, and floral patterns along the right edge. Two loose, dark pink puzzle pieces appear to be floating or placed over the frame, adding a tactile element to the composition.

The overall aesthetic blends modern graphic design with classical illustrative styles. The contrast between the cool, pale blue tones of the background and the warmer, saturated colors within the central inset creates a clear focal point. Text within the inset includes 'KRYPT III,' '736 Teile,' and a German description stating that the puzzle is unprinted and a true challenge.

Purchased 25 years ago - and still undone!
July 2025: Finally started it. I managed to build the edges and a bit of the centre - then I gave it up. Even the sheet with the solution was not really helpful. I only wonder how I did the silver and the blue one... I decided that my remaining time is not enough to do hard puzzles - only easy ones.
