An oil painting of a bustling fantasy marketplace where humans and dinosaurs interact in a historic city square.

This detailed oil painting depicts a vibrant city marketplace where humans and various species of dinosaurs coexist. In the foreground, a young boy runs with a hoop, accompanied by a small, agile dinosaur. Nearby, a large herbivorous dinosaur, adorned with decorative saddles and gear, walks through the crowd, guided by figures in colorful, diamond-patterned costumes. Other citizens, dressed in historic, flowing garments, go about their daily business, some carrying baskets of goods or attending stalls filled with flowers and produce.

The scene is set in a spacious, sunlit stone plaza flanked by grand, classical architecture. Towering long-necked dinosaurs serve as transport or elevated perches for workers, seamlessly blending into the urban environment. The composition utilizes a wide perspective, drawing the eye toward the center where the largest creatures congregate, while numerous background figures add a sense of scale and lively motion to the street level.

The color palette is warm and earthy, dominated by sandstone walls, soft sky tones, and the rich greens and browns of the dinosaurs. The light is diffused, suggesting a bright, hazy afternoon that casts soft shadows across the cobblestones. The painterly, realistic style captures the texture of the dinosaurs' skin and the intricate fabrics of the human clothing with fine detail, evoking an atmosphere of a peaceful, imaginative civilization where prehistoric life is woven into a human-scale society.

This fantasy illustration depicts a vibrant, busy marketplace where humans and dinosaurs coexist in an ornate, classical city. At the center of the square, large herbivores, including a stegosaurus and brachiosaurs, walk alongside people dressed in historical attire. A young boy in the foreground plays with a hoop while a small raptor-like creature trots beside him. The scene is filled with activity, as various individuals go about their daily tasks among the majestic prehistoric animals.

The setting is reminiscent of a grand European city square, featuring elaborate stone architecture with arched doorways and domed roofs in the background. The foreground is lined with market stalls covered in striped awnings, displaying baskets of flowers and produce. Tall palm trees frame the left side, adding a lush, tropical feel to the urban environment. The composition is wide and cinematic, drawing the viewer's eye through the depth of the plaza toward the grand buildings behind.

The colour palette is soft and painterly, dominated by muted earth tones, weathered stone greys, and muted greens, accented by the colourful clothing of the people and the vibrant blooms in the market stalls. The lighting suggests a bright, overcast day, casting soft shadows that contribute to a realistic yet whimsical atmosphere. The style is detailed and classical, echoing the appearance of traditional narrative oil paintings with a focus on scale and intricate textures.

Dinotopia #4 for me. This one wasn't as hard as some of the other ones - some quite distinct areas in this image. Not a great variety of piece shapes, but enough to make a difference (mostly twosies, with some 1 & 3 pin pieces, as well as "wavy pairs")
This was was in as new condition, as it had only been done once before - pretty neat for a 30+ year old puzzle! :-)
